The city of Zadar is one of the most important natural treasures on the Dalmatia Coast from an ecological point of view. Zadar has several national parks for Croatia, both inland and on the peninsula. Nature parks close to the city of Zadar are Palkenica Naitonal Park, the Cataratas of Krka, the Kornati Islands National Park, the Velebit Park, and the Plitvice Lakes National Park. All of these natural places have numerous possibilites to practice outdoor sport, like hiking, rock climbing, or even scuba diving, or routes to walk where you can just appreciate the impressive flora and fauna of the area.
Inside the flora and fauna of these parks, there are very common species that live here: a colony of lion vultures, or the area of summits in the Velebit National Park, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
the Kornati Islands National Park is without a doubt the jewel of the natural spaces in Zadar, and on the Dalmatian Coast, and in Croatia. It has over 100 islands within its limits (40% of the Zadar Archipelago), and is one of the most important attractions for nature lovers.
Natural marinas and ports, lakes, ornithological reserves, salt lakes, flora and fauna, forests, you can see all of this and more here. It is also an ideal place to go hiking, scuba diving, or rock climbing, cave exploring, paragliding, and a long list of etcetera. |
