The art and culture in Zadar is a mix of different cultures. Through Croatia, Greeks, Romans, Slavs, Ottomans, Byzantines, have all passed through here. Inside literature, we should mention names from the period of the 15th and 16th centuries. There was Jerolim Vidolić, or Petar Zoranić without forgetting other names like Juraj Barakovic or ¦ime Budinić.
During the 19th century, Zadar was the centre of culture for the world, on the Dalmatian Coast, for Italians, and for Croatians. Today there are many places you can visit to see the cultural side of Zadar. There's the Zadar Theatre, the National Muesum, the Museum of Archeology, the Maritime Museum, and the Univerity of Zadar, born in the 14th century.
From this tourist region, there are more than 3000 years of history here. See the historic city centre, Kalelarga, or its impressive sunset.
Don't forget, Iván Mestrovic was one of Croatia's most valued artists. he was a sculptor that has his works in most emblematic plazas of the country like Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Split, or Zadar, amongst others. There is also the History of Zagreb Museum, wehre you can see a good part of its legacy. |
